The Seattle Bowl
Georgia Tech's Yellow Jackets represented the Atlantic Coast Conference when they faced Stanford in the inaugural Seattle Bowl on Dec. 27. The Seattle Bowl - formerly the Oahu Bowl -- was the first sports event other than baseball held at Safeco Field, home of the Mariners. It marked Georgia Tech's fifth straight bowl appearance, its longest streak since a six-game run from 1951-56. Tech owns the nation's second-best bowl record with a 19-10 mark and has won four national titles in its storied history.
The game was also a rematch: The Yellow Jackets met 10th ranked Stanford on the grid iron only once before, winning 18-17 in the 1991 Aloha Bowl.
Safeco Field has a capacity of 47,000. Officials estimated the Seattle Bowl brought in an estimated $32 million and 1,100 jobs during its first year. |
